Adam Clague portraits

Initial meeting

The artist meets with the client to discuss the details of the commissioning process. This gives the client the opportunity to ask any questions and gives the artist a chance to get to know the client so he can more effectively depict their portrait. For out-of-state (Michigan) commissions, clients will pay air and hotel fare for two days.

Compositional decisions

The client is encouraged to decide (or begin thinking about) whether he wants a formal or informal portrait, indoors or outdoors setting, and either an engaging (acknowledging the viewer) or candid pose.

Photo shoot

Shortly after the initial meeting (preferably the day after), the artist will conduct a photo shoot. The final portrait will be based on a combination of the photos. On the day of the photo shoot, a 25% down payment will be required.

Presentation of studies

In his studio, Adam will paint one or more small studies, which will represent compositional options for the final portrait. Upon presentation of the studies, the client is free to give any input he desires.

Presentation of portrait

When the client approves a study, the final portrait will commence, based on the study. Final payment will be given, and the client will gain ownership of a unique and beautiful portrait.
